Re: is discus tank too warm?
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll dial it back to 83°F and monitor. Heater's a Fluval E300, and I've got a backup thermometer coming tomorrow.

is discus tank too warm?
My discus tank is sitting at 86°F, but they seem stressed. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Tank is 75 gallons, planted with driftwood, and I do 30% water changes twice a week. Should I lower the temp?

Re: discus tank water clarity hacks
If you're using tap water, check if your conditioner's expired. Old ones don't bind ammonia right, which can mess with clarity. Also, weird vibe but… you got any driftwood? Sometimes tannins make water look cloudy even if it's not.

Re: protein skimmer necessity for corals
Skimmers are kinda overhyped unless you're pushing SPS heavy. I ran a 30-gallon without one for ages, just kept up with water changes and ran chemipure. My Zoas and Hammers did great. But if you're gonna add more fish or skip water changes, it's sketchy.

Re: White stuff on the head
I've been doing water changes of 10+ gallons, which works out to around 17% of the total water content in the tank excluding the sump. My tank's water content is 63 gallons, so that's the percentage I'm looking at. I've been doing these water changes either all in one go ...

Today I performed a 30% water change, dosing a full dose of Metro, and added two tablespoons of salt - no other medications were used.

White stuff on the head
I'm having an issue with one of my discus - it's got white stuff coming out of its head. I do regular water changes and treat with Melafix, aquarium salt, and sometimes Seachem Paraguard.
I also add Seachem Equilibrium after water changes since I use RO water. The water's crystal clear, but this is ...

Looking for 5/6 Large discus
Looking for a reputable breeder who can provide vibrant, healthy discus in various colors - think blue, green, red, turquoise, orange, and more. Plus, I'd appreciate advice on their favorite foods.
