Thanks for the input, everyone. Sounds like I'm overthinking the hardness thing. Gonna up the feeding to three times a day and stick with my current water routine. Nitrates are under 10ppm, so that's not the issue. Appreciate the advice!

Hi Habit, I'd suggest considering a shorter height for that tank. Maintaining a 36 inch tall tank can be a challenge - have you thought about how you'll handle that?

Hi mrFluffy, I came across this older article on water changes that might interest you - it's from Simply Discus, and it discusses a formula for water changes. Worth a read, I think.
