Re: discussing the care of neolamprologus leleupi

I'm currently hooked on shoal/schooling fish, mainly small tetras, and I've developed a fascination with fancy guppies as well. When I first started keeping fish over 30 years ago, I was like a kid in a candy store - I wanted everything. I didn't have the knowledge back then to properly care for ...

Re: discussing the care of neolamprologus leleupi

Those are lovely cichlids - I used to have some, but they were extremely aggressive, which I expected to some extent, given they're Africans, but what I didn't expect was how that aggression persisted despite a well-rocked tank with ample space. I eventually had to let them go.

My experience ...

Re: discussing the care of neolamprologus leleupi

Those Neolamprologus leleupi are quite stunning, the coloration is particularly eye-catching. I've always been drawn to their slender build, it sets them apart from some of the other Tanganyika cichlids.

Re: finding suitable tankmates for betta

I'm glad you're giving your betta a peaceful home, it's really the best decision for their well-being. Just imagine if they could coexist harmoniously, a group of 10 to 15 swimming together would be quite a sight, but I think it's best to prioritize their individual needs.

Re: Are my betta fish sick?

@angelica nailed it, clean water is key to healthy fish. Weekly water changes are a must, and I'm a big fan of using moss balls and live plants to help keep the water quality in check. I used to keep bettas in 5-gallon tanks - it gives them the space they need to swim around and really helps with ...

Re: changing substrate in an established aquarium

You can definitely change it all at once, just make sure to have those fast-growing floating plants in the tank to absorb the ammonia.

Re: changing substrate in an established aquarium

I concur with the suggestions above. I've had success with a planted or silent cycle approach when starting a new tank. This method relies on having sufficient plants to handle the ammonia produced by the fish. With a single Betta, this should be relatively straightforward. I've found that caring ...

Re: help, my betta is ill

I think it's crucial we take a closer look at Vodka's environment. To better understand what's going on, could you please share your water test results? Specifically, we'll need to know the levels of ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. This will give us a clearer picture of what might be causing his ...

Re: multifasciatus tank setup in progress

I've had experience with African Cichlids before, though not this specific type. They do seem to have a thing for shells, don't they - for living and breeding purposes, I mean. Are you looking to breed them in this new tank? I recall starting out with just 8 cichlids in a 55-gallon tank, and before ...
