Re: Feeding discus granules to guppies and platies
Yeah, biofilm's no big deal if you've got cleanup crew. My nerite snails go ham on that stuff. Just don't let it get outta control, or it'll look sketchy.

Re: Feeding discus granules to guppies and platies
Yep, I've fed my platies discus granules too. They're chill with it, but like bronzefox said, crush 'em up. My tank's got sand substrate and a bunch of Java moss, and the fish seem happy. Just don't overfeed, or you'll mess with your water params.

Re: need help with identification
I'm only going off the pics and my thoughts, could be wrong, but that's just my take on it. Seeing it again now, I think the bluey one might not be a Blue Johanni, maybe a different color variation of one though.

Re: need help with identification
The yellow one, I think, is an Electric Yellow. That's Labidochromis caeruleus.
The spotty one looks like a Fulleborni Cichlid, Blossom, also known as Labeotropheus fuelleborni.
The striped one, I'm pretty sure, is a Malieri Cichlid, or Julidochromis marlier.

Re: can someone identify this?
Honestly, I was leaning more towards Labidochromis Caereleus myself, but I can see why you'd think that - it does resemble a sunnygold, just not the typical characteristics I've seen.

Re: keeping hemichromis lifalili
In the US, feeder fish aren't actually against the law. I've got an LFS near me that's got a whole tank labeled for feeder fish - mostly tiny goldfish. They're super cheap, like ten cents each if you buy 'em in bulk, or nineteen cents if you pick 'em out individually.

discussing cichlids
So when people say they're getting a pure cichlid tank, what's the idea behind that? I've always thought cichlids were kinda semi-aggressive, right? Can someone break it down for me - what does 'pure' even mean in this context?

Re: How do cichlid colors change with age?
My list is pretty straightforward,
I've got 4 Malawis - 1 blue, 1 yellow, and 2 reds.
I also have 1 Spotted Fuelliborni, 1 Tanganeyki, which I'm fairly certain is a Compressiceps Cichlid, but I'm not a hundred percent on that.
The others are 2 mainganos, 1 that the store called a bumble bee ...

How do cichlid colors change with age?
I've got a pretty diverse group of African Cichlids - 14 species, to be exact. I've got some from Tanganeyke, some Malawis, and some Mbunas. So far, they all seem to get along just fine. They're all still juveniles, around the 2" mark, and my tank's a 55 gallon with a sand and rock scape. I've also ...
