Re: how to Avoid plant melt in new tanks
I had the same issue when I started my 15-gallon. It's usually the transition shock. Try reducing the light to 6 hours and dose some liquid carbon. Also, make sure your temp isn't too high, around 76F works for me.
Thanks, I'll try cutting the light and grabbing some liquid carbon. Temp's at ...

how to Avoid plant melt in new tanks
My new tank's plants are melting like crazy, especially the Anubias and Java Fern. I've got a 20-gallon with Fluval Stratum substrate, LED lighting for 8 hours a day, and a sponge filter. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Any tips to stop the melt?

Re: is ammonia present in my tap water
I'm concerned about the ammonia levels in my tap water, it's at 0.5. I've got a 5-gallon aquarium and I'm using Prime for water conditioning. I do regular 25% water changes every week. However, when I test the water 2 days later, I'm still getting ammonia readings. I'm wondering if I should be ...

Re: is ammonia present in my tap water
What about maintenance on the filter and substrate, do you do anything with those regularly?

Re: is ammonia present in my tap water
Is the tank fully cycled, and what's the regular maintenance routine like. I'd expect ammonia to convert to nitrate within a couple of days in a well-established tank.

Re: A home for my betta fish
Your tanks are lovely.
In the Red Crusader's tank, I'm curious, is the surface plant plastic? If that's the case, consider replacing it with real floating plants to help prevent injuries to the fish.
You're doing a great job, keep it up.

Re: I struggle with plant care and keep killing my plants
I've managed to get one that's actually doing alright for now - it's dwarf water lettuce, the tropical kind, not the pond type, 'pistia stratiotes'.

Re: I struggle with plant care and keep killing my plants
I've been having a similar issue, but I've finally got one that's propagating. It's a small miracle, and I'm not counting my chickens just yet. Our water parameters seem to be similar, so I'm curious - what fertilisers are you using, and how much?

Re: betta with popeye
Thanks for the input. I appreciate the confirmation that something's off, even if it's not textbook popeye. As Snout suggested, I'll keep the water pristine with extra changes, thorough substrate cleaning, and gentle filter media rinsing in a bucket of tank water. Additionally, I'll add aquarium ...
