Re: why my discus looks pale?
I'd check the lighting too. If it's too bright, they might feel exposed. Mine chilled out when I switched to dimmer LEDs. Also, any new tankmates? Sometimes newcomers mess with their vibe.
Yep, lighting's huge. I run mine on a timer, 8 hours max. Also, what's your pH? If it's swinging, that'll ...

Re: discus hiding behind filter fix
Good call on the water changes. Consistency is key. And yeah, bumping the group to 6 should help. Just quarantine any new additions first. Last thing you want is introducing disease. Oh, and if you're using a white background, try a black one. Made a huge difference for my tank.
Black ...

Re: discus hiding behind filter fix
Sounds like they're stressed. How's the flow on that Fluval 407? Discus don't like strong currents. Maybe try baffling the output with a sponge or turning it down. Also, check if the tank's in a high-traffic area. They might need a quieter spot. Mine chilled out when I moved them away from the ...

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
That's what I use. Works like a charm. Just make sure the water's warm, around 80°F, for best hatch rates.

Re: Discus fry tank setup basics
For fry that young, daily water changes of at least 50% are crucial. They're super sensitive to water quality. Use a siphon to remove waste without disturbing the sand. For food, start with freshly hatched baby brine shrimp or a high-protein powdered fry food. Keep the temp steady, 84°F is perfect ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
My Discus tank's a 55g with a cheapo HOB. Flow's low, but they still hide sometimes. Maybe my angelfish are bullying them? Got Java ferns and a basic LED light. Water's soft, pH 6.8. Should I upgrade the filter?
Angelfish can be jerks to Discus. Try rearranging the decor to break territories ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
Had the same issue with my 90g. Try pointing the output towards the glass or using a spray bar. I run a sponge filter alongside my canister for gentler flow. Also, floating plants like frogbit help break the surface agitation. What's your water change routine?

Honestly, I'm not aware of any closer options. The ones Jazzman mentioned, like Bayareadiscus and Golden State Discus, are really top-notch though.
