Re: Discus not growing as expected
Another thing to consider is genetics. If they're from a weak line, they might just grow slow no matter what. Where'd you get 'em? Reputable breeders usually have better stock than big box stores.

Re: Discus not growing as expected
Are they showing any signs of stress, like hiding or clamped fins? Could be tankmates bothering them. My angels were messing with my Discus until I moved 'em out. Also, what's the substrate? Sand's better than gravel, less chance of food getting trapped and rotting.

Re: bare bottom vs planted discus tank
Thanks for all the input, everyone! I think I'll start with bare bottom for now and maybe switch to planted once my Discus are bigger. Appreciate the advice.

bare bottom vs planted discus tank
I'm setting up a new 75-gallon tank for my Discus and can't decide between bare bottom or planted. I've heard bare bottom is easier to clean, but planted looks more natural. What's your experience with both setups? My fish are juveniles, around 3 inches, and I do 50% water changes twice a week with ...

Re: Growing anubis in pale conditions
Just got the results from the API test strip. Not sure how reliable these are, but the pH matches what I got with the master test kit. Hopefully this helps figure out what's going on.

Re: Growing anubis in pale conditions
Cheers for the replies guys. I'm starting to think it's a fert issue, not the plant itself. It's a low-tech tank with strong lighting, and I only started using ferts recently when I saw the sessiliflora turning brown - probably algae, looking back. The plant's 100% aquatic, Tropica 1-2 Grow, and it ...

Re: Growing anubis in pale conditions
Here's what I've been using for ferts over the past fortnight.
The plants had a nasty dark algae on them, especially the Anubis, but my otos have done a great job cleaning them off and this is the first time in ages I've seen them looking green.
That being said, they're still yellowing and the ...

Growing anubis in pale conditions
One possibility that comes to mind is excessive light exposure - I noticed one of the leaves had a distinct half-and-half coloration, almost as if a line had been drawn across its width, with one side pale and the other green. It's an interesting observation, but it doesn't fully explain the ...

Growing and caring for limnophila sessiliflora
I've really taken a liking to this plant, adding six more bunches to the tank already. They're a great choice for a densely stocked aquarium like mine, as they thrive on the nutrients provided by fish food and waste in the water column, and the substrate via their roots. With proper care, they grow ...

Re: essential items for a new aquarium kit
I think I'll add a little something for the family too, perhaps a few books to keep them occupied while I'm busy with the tank - a good distraction never hurts.
