Re: how to Grow anubias with shrimp
Shrimp won't bother Anubias roots, but they might pick at any algae on the leaves. Make sure you're not burying the rhizome in the substrate, that'll kill it. Tie it to driftwood or a rock instead.

Re: Growing and caring for java fern in a freshwater aquarium
Java ferns seem to have a preference for specific types of driftwood, but it's interesting to see they also thrive with heat and flowing roots. I've got mine tied to driftwood at the moment, and I'm thinking of moving it now.

I've got it attached to a piece of driftwood, just letting the roots flow over it.

Modern Aquarium and Live Aquaria are options worth checking out.

Finding the right soils
Planning a half land/half water vivarium for newts and I'm looking for a soil that'll work well for the land portion. It'll be bog plants with constantly wet soil, so I want to avoid a muddy mess. Has anyone got any recommendations for a soil that can handle this? I'm open to suggestions on plants ...

Re: Capturing springtails in your home or yard
I think you can corral them into the water, where they'll float, and then use a brine shrimp net to scoop them up.

I also recommend the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Fantastic for algae removal, and the white color makes it easy to spot any missed areas. Easy to clean and reusable too.
