Re: Discus fry tank heater choice
Anyone tried the Fluval E series? I'm running one in my 30-gallon community tank, but curious how it handles fry temps. My Discus are adults, so I keep it at 82°F, but heard fry need tighter control.

Re: can discus live with shrimp?
For a sustainable shrimp colony with Discus, you'd need a heavily planted tank with ample hiding spots. I'd recommend a 100+ gallon setup with Amano or Bamboo shrimp. My 125 gallon has both, and the shrimp thrive. Water's at 84°F, pH 6.7, with a canister filter and weekly 20% water changes.

Re: Preparing for a week-long vacation
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll test the auto feeder and do a big water change before I go. Appreciate the help!

Preparing for a week-long vacation
I'm gonna be away for a week and need advice on keeping my 55-gallon planted tank stable. I've got a school of Tetras, a pair of Angelfish, and some Corydoras. Current setup is a Fluval 307 canister filter, CO2 injection, and LED lighting on a timer. What's the best way to handle feeding and ...

Re: discus tank gravel vs sand
I've used both in different tanks. Gravel can trap debris, which messes with water quality if you're not careful. Sand is cleaner long-term, but you gotta stir it occasionally to prevent dead spots. My Discus are way more active on sand, fwiw.

Re: why discus swim in circles?
Noticed my Discus swimming in circles today. Tank's a 75 gallon, temp at 84F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. They're about 4 inches, fed beef heart mix twice daily. Anyone seen this before?
Check your flow rate. High current from filters can mess with them. I run a Fluval FX4 on low ...

Re: discus fin damage recovery time
Fin damage can heal in about 2-4 weeks if water quality is pristine. Since your params are good, focus on daily 10% water changes to keep stress low. I'd also add some Indian Almond Leaves for their antibacterial properties. What's your current water change schedule?
Thanks! I'm doing 20% twice ...

discus fin damage recovery time
My Discus have some fin damage, likely from a recent scuffle with tankmates. How long does it usually take for them to heal? Water params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, pH 6.8, temp 84F. Tank is 75 gallons, sand substrate, lots of driftwood. They're eating well, mostly beef heart and ...

Re: can discus handle high nitrates?
Yo, my crew chills at 50 ppm, no probs. But they're tank-raised beefheart junkies. If yours are wild, maybe cut it back. I run a sump, no plants, just driftwood. They dig it.
Wild Discus would stress at 50 ppm. Domestics are hardier, but long-term health risks include stunted growth. I'd aim ...

Re: algae takeover in coral tank help
Thanks, all. Gonna test phosphates tonight and grab some Trochus snails tomorrow. Lights are dialed back to 60% intensity. Feedings are every day with LRS Reef Frenzy, so I'll cut to every other day. Appreciate the help!
Solid plan. Keep us posted. Oh, and if you're using frozen, rinse it in a ...
