Re: can discus live with shrimp?
Yeah, nah, shrimp with Discus is sketchy unless you're cool with losing a few. My tank's got a bunch of caves and plants, but the shrimp still get picked off. Temp's at 81°F, and I use a UV sterilizer. Maybe try snails instead?

Re: discus tank water testing kits
Thanks for the recs, everyone. Gonna try the API kit first since it's easy to find. If I start chasing numbers, maybe I'll upgrade to Hanna later.

discus tank water testing kits
What's the best water testing kit for Discus? My tank's been running for 3 months, 75 gallons, sand substrate, and I'm using a Fluval canister filter. Parameters are usually 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, but nitrates creep up to 20ppm after a week. Need something reliable, not sketchy.

Re: discus breeding tank lighting
Man, this lighting stuff is wild. I just threw in a cheap LED from Amazon, and my Discus are like, nah. Gonna try y'all's advice. Got a 40-gallon, sponge filter, and some driftwood. Water's at 84°F, pH 6.8. How long before I see results after changing the lights?

Re: best plants for discus aquariums
Yo, Anubias is a vibe too. Super chill plant, doesn't care about your water params. I've got mine glued to a piece of spiderwood, and my Discus love hiding in the leaves. Just don't plant it in the sand, or it'll rot.

Re: can discus live with angelfish?
Sounds sketchy to me. Angels are kinda jerks sometimes, and Discus are too fancy to mess with. My buddy tried it, and his Angels nipped the Discus' fins. Tank was big enough, but the vibe was off. Maybe if you get super young Angels? Dunno, man.

Mixing wild and bred discus
I've got 17 of Kenny's discus doing great. Found a local guy selling a 5.5" wild discus and I'm wondering if it's safe to mix with my current stock. I'd definitely quarantine for 6-8 weeks, but has anyone else successfully combined the two strains? Would love to hear any advice from those who've ...

Re: Discus fish Weight
I've come across some research from the University of Florida that suggests optimal fish health is achieved when adult fish are fed 1-1.5% of their body weight daily. This can be given in one or divided into two to three feedings. For example, if an adult discus weighs around ...
