Also, check your substrate. Java Fern doesn't need much, but if it's buried too deep, the rhizome can rot. Attach it to driftwood or rocks instead.

A 10 gallon should be fine for Java Fern. How's your water flow? They don't like strong currents. Also, what's your lighting schedule? Too much or too little can mess with them.

Anubias and Java Fern are basically bulletproof in hard water. I've got both in my 30-gallon with similar params, and they're thriving. Just don't bury the rhizomes, or they'll rot. Tie 'em to driftwood or rocks instead.
