Re: Best water conditioner for Betta tanks

Hard water can be a pain. I'd stick with Prime since it handles heavy metals too. Also, how often are you testing your water? If it's stable, you might not need to switch.

Re: £15 for 10kg fine sand: Fair price?

I'd say it's a fair deal if it's clean. My 150L has had the same sand for 2 years, no issues. Just make sure it's not sharp. Corys are tough, but rough substrate can wear their barbels down.

Re: discus tank setup for shy fish

Sounds like your setup's solid, but they might need more cover. Try adding taller plants like Amazon swords or floating plants to block light. Also, keep the room dim for a few days. Mine took about two weeks to stop being sketchy.

Could also be dust from the substrate if you didn't rinse the plants well. I've seen that cloud things up real bad. What kind of gravel you using? Some of the cheaper stuff leaches fines for weeks.

Re: ammonia spikes in discus tank fix

Another thing, how often do you clean the sand? Detritus can get trapped and rot, causing ammonia. A gentle stir during water changes can help.

Re: ammonia spikes in discus tank fix

Your tank's overstocked. Discus need way more space, and those Rams aren't helping. You're gonna crash the cycle if you don't fix this fast.

Not necessarily. I've kept Discus in a 75 with similar stock, but you gotta stay on top of maintenance. How old is your tank? New setups are more prone to ...

Re: picking healthy discus at the store

Yeah, and don't forget to check their fins. Clamped fins are a bad sign. I learned that the hard way when I brought home a pair that looked fine but ended up with fin rot. My tank's got a sponge filter, and I feed them frozen bloodworms twice a day. Also, if the store's tanks look dirty, nope ...

Re: picking healthy discus at the store

First off, check their eyes. Cloudy or sunken eyes are a no-go. They should be bright and clear. Also, watch how they swim—healthy Discus are active but not frantic. If they're hiding in a corner or gasping at the surface, that's sketchy. My 75-gallon has driftwood and Java ferns, and I keep the ...

Re: Discus Tank Help Please...!
I've got a game-changer for tall tanks - PytLion's 30" sipLion. It makes maintenance in my 31" tall aquarium a breeze. Honestly, it's the best thing I've found for tall tanks.

Re: Discus Tank Help Please...!

Hi all, I'm new here and just wanted to share my experience. I've been in the hobby for 40 years, had all types of fish, including salt. Recently converted my community tank to discus only - couldn't be happier. My tank's a 150 gallon Xtra high, 48"x24"x31", with a ...
