Why is discus breathing heavy?
Noticed my discus breathing heavy today, gills moving fast. Tank is 75 gallons, temp at 84F, pH 6.8, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate around 10ppm. They're about 6 months old, fed beef heart mix twice daily. No new tankmates, just a pair of Rams. Filter is a Fluval 407, weekly 50% water changes. Any ...

Re: discus breeding pair separation
Dim lighting helps, yeah. And if you've got floating plants like frogbit, toss some in. They'll make her feel safer. How often are you doing water changes? Daily 10% might help too.

Re: discus breeding pair separation
If they're getting aggressive, it's best to separate them temporarily. I've seen pairs chill out after a break. Keep the male in the main tank and move the female to a 20-gallon with similar params. Feed them bloodworms and beef heart to reduce stress.

Re: Feeding schedule for brain corals
Brain Corals don't need heavy feeding. Try spot feeding once or twice a week with mysis or reef roids. Keep an eye on water params, especially nitrates.
Yep, overfeeding can cause more harm than good. I'd start with once a week and adjust based on how it responds. Also, check for pests ...

Re: Why are my crypts not growing?
Crypt melt is common when they're adjusting to new water conditions. Even if your params are stable, they might still be acclimating. How often are you doing water changes? Big swings can trigger melt. Also, what's your KH and GH? Crypts prefer softer water.

I'm definitely down to join in on the order once you're all set up.
