Re: ATO calibration for coral tank

If all else fails, try a manual top-off for a few days while you troubleshoot. Better safe than sorry.

Second this. The Neptune system is rock solid. Worth every penny if you're serious about keeping your tank stable.

No problem! Let us know how it goes. And if you do go with Amanos, they're pretty hardy but still appreciate some cover. Good luck with the tank!

Cherry Shrimp should be fine with Neon Tetras, but keep an eye on them. Some Tetras might nip at the shrimp if they're hungry. Maybe start with a few and see how it goes. Also, consider adding some hiding spots like small caves or dense plants.

Re: Is it worth the investment?

If you're gonna do it, go all in. I skipped the middle step and went from 20 to 75 gallons. Yeah, it hurt my wallet, but now I've got room for a proper school of Tetras and a few centerpiece fish. Plus, maintenance is way easier than I expected.

Re: Heater and water change advice needed

Yeah, I checked out the options last week, and also took a look at Mounds and PS yesterday, but didn't see anything suitable for my little 1.6 gallon tank. Can you set the temperature on the Hydor Mini Heater, and does the light on the tank make a significant difference in the temperature?

Also, I ...

I've read that you shouldn't use a heater in a tank this small, but it's currently empty, so I've got some time to decide. Without the light on, the temperature stays around 68 degrees, which is ...

Re: setting up a mixed reef tank

I've had good results with a combo of chaeto and weekly water changes. Also, don't sleep on feeding less. Most folks overfeed their tanks, especially with mixed reefs.

Re: setting up a mixed reef tank

You'll wanna keep the Acros higher up with strong flow, maybe 80% power on the Nero. Zoanthids can chill lower down with less direct flow. What's your PAR reading at the top and bottom?

Yep, that's the move. I'd also throw in a wave mode on the Nero to keep detritus from settling. What salt mix ...
