Re: Silver tip tetra playful behavior

For real, floating plants are the MVP. They cut down on light intensity and give the fish more hiding spots. Plus, they're easy to manage. Just scoop out the excess when it gets too thick. Win-win.

Re: Silver tip tetra playful behavior

Silver Tips are just built different, man. They're like the ADHD kids of the fish world, always bouncing off the walls. As long as your water's tight and they're not hurting each other, let 'em do their thing. What's your tank's lighting schedule like?

Re: best food options for betta fish

Thanks for the advice, I was just wondering about other options since I already feed him Omega micro pellets and mosquito larvae, but it's that time of year and they're hard to come by now.

best food options for betta fish

I recently got a new fin tank and I gotta say, I wasn't too thrilled with my fish choice at first. When they're in those little cups, it's hard to get a good look, and I didn't realize mine had some major issues - it had trouble swimming and just floated at the top. It was also super thin, which ...

Re: Black spots on my java fern: causes and solutions

I'm still stumped, if it's not the lighting, nutrients, or where it's placed, then what's causing these black spots?

Re: Black spots on my java fern: causes and solutions

I'm using Flourish Excel, it's the liquid version. My GH is 75, or at least that's what the little bottle says - it's labeled as soft.

Re: Black spots on my java fern: causes and solutions

I'll stop adding the iron, I only dose it once a week anyway. I was also thinking it could be a micronutrient deficiency, my tank doesn't have many fish and the snails eat any excess food, plus I do 50% water changes every 2 weeks, could this be affecting it?

Re: Black spots on my java fern: causes and solutions

Here's what it looks like on one of the leaves. I've got another java fern that I grew from a rhizome cutting of the affected one, and it had black spots so bad I had to trim it off.

Re: Black spots on my java fern: causes and solutions

It's tied to a piece of driftwood and gets 8 hours of light, but I only have one low-watt bulb. There's duckweed covering the surface, though. It also gets some indirect sunlight from a window.
