Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
I've got some thoughts on rock choices for mbuna tanks - personally, I think limestone, sandstone, and granite are the way to go. Slate just doesn't cut it, it's too flat and doesn't create natural-looking caves. I mean, you can try to make cave systems with slate, but they're always gonna be a bit ...

Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
I picked up rocks in all shapes and sizes, nothing too big that it'd overwhelm the tank, nor too small that it'd get lost. I've got rocks ranging from 3 inches all the way up to a foot in length.

Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
Still looks a bit dicey to me, I've just been super cautious with my own setup. Don't want a rock to get dislodged and end up with a busted tank, that's just a nightmare.

Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
Your tank does look a bit unstable, to be honest. I'd be concerned about it tipping over, especially with cichlids being such active swimmers. Also, I think you could add more rocks to create some hiding places and visual interest. Just make sure they're secure and won't topple over when the fish ...

Re: my aquascape journey so far
That scape is absolutely stunning, love the way the kiln dried sand and Atlantic Paddle Stones complement each other, and your fish are thriving in their new environment.

Re: is this filter suitable for long-term use?
You could definitely run that Aqua-Tech as a sidekick if you pair it with a good canister filter. If you're looking for another hang-on-back option, you'd need a pretty large one to handle the extra load.

Re: best food for LPS corals
Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll try adding amino acids and phyto to my routine. My flow is moderate, and I feed every other day. Calcium is at 420.

best food for LPS corals
I've been feeding my LPS a mix of mysis shrimp and reef roids, but they don't seem to be thriving. What's the best food to get them growing faster? My tank is a 40-gallon with T5 lighting, and parameters are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.

Re: discussing african cichlids and general care
I'm in a similar boat, researching for my own 46-gallon project, so I can only offer some insights I've gathered so far. Since you mentioned Tanganyikans, I've been looking into them, and I think you were the one who suggested I check them out. They do have some smaller species that might work for ...

discussing african cichlids and general care
I'm seriously rethinking my 37-gallon tank setup. It's been neglected, and my female convict's been wreaking havoc. The hood's broken, so I'll replace it and probably get a new light too. Figured it's the perfect time to rehome some fish and start fresh.
