Re: Getting new fish to eat
Yeah, my fish are eating great now, but I'm pretty sure it was the food size issue like you mentioned. Once I crushed it up, they went crazy for it. I think stress might've played a role those first two days too, my jeweled cichlid was always hiding and he's just starting to come out and be active ...

Getting new fish to eat
So I figured I'd share this tip on getting your new cichlids to eat. When I first brought mine home, they were super picky - they'd swim up to the food, stare at it, then just swim away. I thought maybe it was the food itself, so I switched it up. Nope, turned out the pellets were just too big for ...

Re: about african chilids
Laurac's problem wouldn't be the cray catching the fish, it's actually the other way around - the cichlids would likely rip the cray to shreds, depending on their size and aggression level. I've seen this firsthand with my own blue cray and cichlids; if I had put her in the tank with them just 30 ...

Love this tank setup, it's amazing. The combination of colors is so nice. Are those yellow labs and kenyi, they really stand out with the blue and yellow decorations?

Re: are my fish displaying courtship behavior?
Yeah they were definitely mating, I'm sure of it now. They're about 4 inches, and there were eggs, she had a mouthful until I spooked her and she swallowed them.

Raise the first batch, sell the rest off - my tank's already at capacity, don't want to overstock.

Re: are my fish displaying courtship behavior?
I actually figured it out myself, they were indeed mating. I also caught them doing this weird dance thing. I found a YouTube video that shows the exact same behavior - pretty cool stuff.

are my fish displaying courtship behavior?
Just checked on my tank and my male and female kenyi are doing this weird thing that looks like they're kissing. Thought they were fighting at first but they're being super gentle with each other.
Got a pic, can try for a video if you need it.

Re: can anyone identify these objects?
I was probably off the mark, but there's another fish that's pretty similar to a kenyi. The giveaway for me that the first one isn't a kenyi is the striping - all the kenyi females I've seen have stripes that point down. This one, though, has them going both up and down. I've got 5 female kenyi ...

can anyone identify these objects?
Got these two oddballs in a bunch of kenyi I picked up for 5 bucks. Think one's a blue convict, not so sure about the other.
Blue convict?
And then there's this mystery cow - it's ridiculously aggressive, always chasing my big male kenyi around the tank.
Thanks for the help!
