Re: choosing the right fish for my aquarium

I'm not convinced the loaches will do well with the malawis, to be honest. The other fish you've listed should be alright, but it does sound like you're trying to replicate a few different tank set-ups in one go. I'd personally avoid the sp44 as they're not malawis, and I've heard the Aulonocara ...

Re: help with fin nipping

Aulonocara can be right pests when it comes to nipping, they'll start and stop for no reason, it's like they're just trying to keep you on your toes. It could be pecking order, breeding, or just wanting a bigger share of the space in the tank. I'm not saying you can't run a tank like yours, lots of ...

Re: request for stocking assistance

I've had experience with both tanganyikans and malawis in six foot setups, trying to achieve that natuflake look. I was quite particular about the details, even going as far as creating my own custom sand mix - not just your average crushed coflake. The choice of rocks was also crucial, I wanted ...

Re: finding the best aquatic shops in surrey

Mike Bonnick in West Wickham - not too far from you, I think. He's got an impressive setup - 50 tanks of Africans, which is hard to find in any UK shop. I came across his ad on Aquarist Classifieds and thought it might be worth checking out. There's also a South East Facebook group you might find ...

Re: exploring tanganyika cichlids

I've had malawis for ages, and I've recently started keeping Tangys for a few months now. To be honest, I'm finding them pretty similar to care for - as long as you keep their water clean and feed them good quality food, they seem to thrive.

Re: keeping pseudotropheus demasoni cichlids

I've had no issues keeping 2 groups of trios, so I'm not convinced big groups are always necessary. What are your plans, are you going to keep other Malawis with them or have a species-specific tank? And what size tank are you planning on using, by the way? Oh, and just a heads up, I'm actually just ...
