Re: About squiggy

Squiggy is one dashing betta - that face of his is almost invisible against the dark background in the photo. I mean, $3.99 at Petsmart? What a steal. And I'm glad I gave in to that blue color, his name just seems to fit him perfectly.

Re: Tips for relocating fish

Agreed with talkingdoll. Also, fast your fish 24 hours before the move to reduce waste. Pack them in sturdy bags or containers with minimal water sloshing. If it's a long drive, consider insulated coolers to maintain temp.

Softies are way more forgiving. Acros need everything dialed in, or they'll ghost you fast.

Re: Ideal Salinity for Coral Health

I've been running my tank at 1.025 sg for months, but my Acropora aren't thriving. Anyone got tips on the sweet spot for salinity? My params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 8 dKH, 450 calcium, 78°F.

I'd bump it to 1.026. Acros often prefer it slightly higher. Make sure your refractometer is ...

Re: Are these detritus worms a specific type of species or is there a more general term

My wife discovered these on her swordtail tank, and water parameters are all within normal range, temp's at 77 degrees - are these detritus worms?

I agree with Matti, a better photo would be ideal but based on what we have, I'm leaning towards copepods too. They seem to be on the glass, which ...

Re: Best live foods for kuhlii loaches

Thanks again for looking into that, I appreciate the effort you put into researching what my loaches might eat in the wild. I agree that culturing insect larvae could be a bit of a challenge, especially if we're talking about insects with wings.

I think I might have a decent alternative, though ...

Re: Best live foods for kuhlii loaches

I decided to dive into what kuhlii loaches eat in the wild, hoping to find some inspiration for live foods that would work for them. Unfortunately, there's a surprising lack of studies on this topic. The best I could find was a mention of "insect larvae" as a food source.

I did stumble upon some ...

Re: Can anyone identify this object?

Upon closer inspection, I'm now entirely convinced that it's a shrimp molt leg – I've got an intimate familiarity with crustacean anatomy, and those segments are spot on for shrimp. If it were a worm, it'd lack the characteristic translucency of chitin, and the segments would be uniform in size ...

Re: Can anyone identify this object?

I'm thinking that segmented thing might be a shrimp molt, possibly just one of the legs - do you have any shrimp in the tank, btw?

Re: Choosing the perfect fish for a 10-gallon tank

I've done some research and it looks like Canada's carry-on restrictions are pretty similar to those in the US. I'm getting a bit worried about getting through security with the fish - I can already imagine the hassle of having to pour out the water from the bottle. If you're determined to make it ...
