Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
I'm holding off on adding cichlids for now since I'm heading out on vacation soon. My tank's fully cycled, but I'm dealing with a higher pH than I'd like at the moment. I've got the Malawi buffer and cichlid salt on hand, though. Before introducing any cichlids, I'll definitely be removing all the ...

Re: does my setup suit cichlids well
I'm with the others on the rockwork, it's a bit sparse and unstable. Those caves don't need to be massive, in fact, the fish love squeezing into tight spots. But here's the thing, they'll dig around the base of everything and undermine your plans.

Re: Freshwater aquarium fish
Hey Guys,
Got a quick question about adding new fish to my tank. I've had my 55 gallon setup going for a while now, and it's been running smoothly since the cycle finished.
Added 3 new fish about 6 days ago - a red zebra, cobalt blue, and a yellow lab. They're almost full grown, so I figured ...

Re: Freshwater aquarium fish
I think you're good to add 2-3 more fish a week, just keep a close eye on the water stats after you add them. Don't overfeed and you should be fine. The fish you already have are schooling fish and do better in groups, so you might want to consider adding a few more to each species. For example, a ...

Re: Cooling fan for 20-gallon high tank
Fans can help, but they're not a long-term fix if your room's always hot. Might wanna look into a chiller if it's a recurring issue. What's your budget like?

Both those horizontal striped ones, they're Melanochromis. Aggressive, top end. I'm speaking from experience, having dealt with a couple of them personally. I start with Dr. Best's Cichlid link for my research, then cross-check with real-world pics to verify IDs or potential crossbreeds. Medic23 ...

I almost lost it when I saw Lego land, I was ready to go off. But then I got it. Seriously though, that was a terrible setup. African Cichlids are no joke, they're like the Chimps of the fish world, don't mess with them.

Re: My first bee brood to keep
Makes sense, useful info from experience - thanks for sharing.
Got a couple of pics to share - these are pseudotropheus Acei fry.
Filter looks a bit grimy due to how I power cycled it with mulm from an existing filter - just an FYI.
Bag in the background of pic 2 is full of mature media, just in ...

Re: My first bee brood to keep
Just had my first and I'm freaking out, got a bad case of new daddy syndrome lol.
For the first time, I separated a holding female cichlid at around 2.25 weeks, and I didn't expect her to release her fry within an hour, about 5 days ahead of schedule. It's like she checked the calendar or ...

Re: My first bee brood to keep
Eggo, thanks for the congrats. I appreciate your input, but I've got a question - what's the basis for daily water changes? I'm intrigued by your reasoning here. With my setup - two fully cycled sponge filters and sand - my test results indicate I'm in good shape. I mean, I know sponge filters aren ...
