Re: my tank rescape experience

It'll be alright, not perfect, but it'll work. Mbuna don't need as much space between rocks as you'd think. If they can squeeze through, they'll prefer to be fin to rock, believe it or not. Tighten up the stack a bit and add more - it's not bad, just a bit short and gapped.

Build it taller and ...

Re: labradors with a yellow coat

what size is ur tank mate

+1

Tursios, being haplochromis cichlids, will indeed grow quite large, around 8-10". They're active swimmers, so a spacious tank is essential. A 72" long tank would be ideal, to be honest.

While they do grow slower than most cichlids, it's best to have a suitable ...

Re: setting up a malawi rock

For a freshwater setup, I'd definitely recommend base rock or Texas Holey Rock if you can find it in your area. The live rock you're considering will essentially become dead rock once it's in your tank, but that's not necessarily a problem - it's just a matter of whether you're willing to pay the ...

Re: new six by two by two

Honestly, I'm stumped on background and lighting ideas, but with the tank's length, I'd definitely recommend using at least two 750-1000gph wave-makers, positioned to cross over at a 20-degree angle from the bottom up. This will create a really nice mid-tank break, assuming your rock arrangement ...

Not exactly the most exciting tank, but hey, it's a start. That little kid's adorable, though. On a more serious note, is that internal glass thingy meant for a sump or just some leftover storage from the LFS?

If you're in the Denver area, I'd recommend checking out about-fish - despite the website being a bit outdated, the store itself is top-notch. Mark, the owner, is an ACA member and a seasoned African cichlid breeder who prioritizes the health of his stock over profits. He's got a vast selection ...

Re: is everything alright

I'm thinking, why not the yellow tails in a 50-gallon tank, they're only 6 inches long but man, they're super active. I've had some experience with them and I've found they breed pretty early too. I've got a 4-inch female that's almost ready to spit her first fry, which is awesome because this is ...

oakleyride wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 3:17 am Red sailfin pleco's a big fella, 30cm+ and they can be messy. Should be alright with your lake Malawis though, just keep an eye on the space.
That foot-long fish would live with most Africans fine. I mean, there's a risk of eye plucking with Mbuna, just a heads up.
