Re: best discus tank vacation care
Or just take 'em with you. Kidding! Sorta. I knew a guy who transported his Discus in a cooler for a road trip. Wild stuff. But yeah, auto feeder + water change before/after is the way. Tank's 40 gallons, no CO2, just easy plants.

Re: can discus live with shrimp?
Lol, my Discus straight up murdered every shrimp I put in there. Even the big bois. Maybe yours are nicer, but mine are savages. Tank's at 80°F, sand substrate, and a HOB filter. Shrimp didn't stand a chance.

Re: discus breeding water softener
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna test RO and peat separately in my smaller tanks first. My main tank's pH is 7.0, temp 85°F, fish are about 18 months old. Appreciate the help!

discus breeding water softener
My Discus aren't breeding and I think it's the water hardness. I've got a 75 gallon tank, sand substrate, and a Fluval canister filter. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, but the GH is around 10 dGH. I feed them beef heart mix twice a day and do 30% water changes weekly. Should ...

Re: Why discus fry die so fast?
I've had luck with adding a bit of methylene blue to the tank. Just a drop or two. Helps with stress and prevents fungus. Also, how often are you cleaning the sponge filter? Gotta keep it pristine.

Re: Discus fry growth rate issues
Weird vibe, but are the parents still in there? Sometimes they stress the fry. Also, try adding some almond leaves—helps with the water and gives 'em hiding spots.

Re: Discus tank bioload management
Floaters explode if you got bright lights. Just don't let 'em cover the whole surface, Discus need some open space. Also, duckweed's a pain to remove, so maybe try salvinia first.

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
I'd say cut it with RO if you can. My first batch croaked in hard water, second batch's doing great with 150 ppm. Tank's 55 gallons, driftwood, no plants. Filter's a cheapo HOB, but it works. Feed 'em tetra bits and frozen brine shrimp.

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
My Discus tank's a 55g with a cheapo HOB. Flow's low, but they still hide sometimes. Maybe my angelfish are bullying them? Got Java ferns and a basic LED light. Water's soft, pH 6.8. Should I upgrade the filter?
