Re: discus tank water clarity hacks

Cloudiness is likely bacterial blooms from overfeeding. Cut back to once daily, and try switching to a mix of pellets and frozen. Also, check your filter flow rate, might need to bump it up if it's under 300 GPH for a 75g.

Yep, agree with this. I had the same issue till I dialed back feeding ...

Did you check your water params? Sometimes it's just bad luck, but usually there's a reason.

Re: Trusted online tropical fish retailers

I've had great experiences with AquaHuna. Their shipping is solid, and the fish arrive healthy. Just make sure to acclimate them properly. What species are you looking for?

Re: discus breeding tank lighting

Yo, Finny, I'd cut the light to 8 hours max. Breeding pairs need dimmer vibes, like a 6500K LED at 50% intensity. I run mine with a timer, 7am to 3pm, and they've been popping out fry like crazy. Also, toss in some floating plants to diffuse the light. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the tip ...

discus breeding tank lighting

What's the best lighting setup for a breeding tank? I've got a 55-gallon with a pair of Discus, sand substrate, and some Java Ferns. Water params are stable, 82°F, pH 6.5. They're laying eggs but not hatching, and I'm wondering if the lighting's too bright. Using a basic LED strip, 12 hours a day.

I'd also come across that in my research and it added to their appeal for me. My previous experience with a bristlenose was a bit of a different story, though - he was a heavy waste producer.

Re: Keeping kuhli loaches with sand

Thanks for the info. I do have some areas with deeper sand, but most of it's manageable. My main concern's the spots under the wood and ornaments - they're pretty hard to reach. But, I've got live plants with roots in the sand around those areas, so I guess that's helping. I just get these ...

Re: Keeping kuhli loaches with sand

I'm running a 20 gallon tank with sand substrate, and it's a bit of a challenge when it comes to maintenance. The back is heavily planted, and there are lots of ornaments that make it tough to get into all the nooks and crannies during partial water changes.

I was wondering if adding a group of 6 ...

Re: Keeping kuhli loaches with sand

I think it's a bit optimistic to expect those Kuhli loaches to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to aerating the sand in those hard-to-reach areas. They might hang out where the sand is already nice and fluffed, or they might do some of the work, but I'm guessing they'll leave some areas ...
