Re: A change to scape

Looks a big improvement now, but yeah, definitely needs more rock work for my Malawi Cichlids.

Re: does fish really hold?

I am hoping she was just holding food, although she is hiding this morning in one of the hollow rocks. Click to expand...

You can hope, but I've never seen a fish look like that, unless they were holding something other than food! Fingers crossed she's just holding a snack, but she's gone to ...

Re: does fish really hold?

They appear to be quite juvenile. Lovely specimens, though - are they Tangs, and if so, which species do you think they might be?

Re: does fish really hold?

Looks that way to me, the top one's pouch does seem like it's holding something, and the one at an angle behind it seems to be in a similar position.

Re: compatibility with african cichlids and other fish

You should avoid using salt in your tank, as these fish aren't brackish. Instead, consider a proper buffering method - a Malawi/Rift valley mineflake mix would be a better choice.

Re: collection of jewels

You'll need a male around to fertilize the eggs as they're being laid; after they've been laid, it's too late for fertilization to occur.

I'm not trying to be a downer or anything, but have you given any thought to what you'd do with the fry if you do manage to breed them? The market for a couple ...

Re: collection of jewels

They're not actually pregnant, just carrying eggs. The fertilization process occurs after the eggs have been laid, which means they won't be fertile without a male present. I'd advise against keeping three in the same tank, as the odd female out would likely be bullied, possibly even killed by the ...

Re: breeding and caring for betta fish

Fish colour genetics can be a bit tricky, but generally, all-white parents are needed to increase the chances of getting all-white offspring.

That being said, the closer your fish are to being all-white, the better your chances of getting pure whites.
