Re: challenges with fine sand, adult corys, and power filtration in small tanks

I've made the switch to air pump driven sponge filters on all my tanks, from the smallest to my 55 gallon. I find they're more than sufficient for my needs. Occasionally, I'll bust out the old HOB with a carbon filter to do a deep clean, but that's about it.

Re: Caring for mystery snails

I'm considering adding a supplement to my mystery snail's diet. I've narrowed it down to Crystalpro Shrimp Minerals or GlasGarten Mineral Junkie Bites - both seem like they could help with shell health. My snail currently gets algae wafers, unsalted green beans, and blanched kale, but I think one of ...

Re: A concise guide to python programming

I've been using the Python for my bigger tanks - 20 and 55 gallons. The gravel vac works great. I do use the water fill feature but only during the warmer months since the water from the outside connection is too cold the rest of the year. I don't have an inside tap that the Python can connect to ...

First job of the day was tackling the African tank - it's always a challenge. I used a 36" long handled net to catch the three large albino Corys and moved them to a holding tank with fine sand. I also removed the big white mystery snail and one of the Zebra Nerite snails, as we're expecting a ...

Re: A surprising fact i recently discovered

If you're not careful with feeding or have some sort of tank issue like a death, then yeah, ammonia spikes can be a concern. But like sidthy said, the most common reason for bubbles is probably the film on the surface from food and such. There are plenty of other reasons for bubbles too - I found ...

Re: Do corydoras catfish exhibit rolling or flicking as natural behavior?

They look fine in the video to me. One thing I did notice was the spots on that cory at 0:29. Not really sure what to make of that.

Re: Common fish illnesses and their symptoms

I'm probably being foolish asking about a potential illness without any visual evidence, but I'm hoping the description might ring a bell with someone. I've had this tank running with these fish for about a year now, and I've lost 3 or 4 of them in the same way. Given that they were juveniles when ...

Re: choosing the right food for your betta

I usually give my betta a mix of foods - mostly Tetra bettamin worm shaped bites, and I also give frozen brine shrimp once a week to all my fish, including my betta.

Re: closing down my 30-gallon aquarium

I've experienced similar issues with my indoor faucets. I've been using the python with my outdoor faucet/hose, but I'd love to get it working indoors too. The thing is, using the outdoor faucet doesn't give me the control I need over the water temperature when filling my tanks.
