Re: new to the world of aquariums with my 75 gallon tank

It really depends on the type of chromis you're interested in keeping. I think seveflake shoals might not be the best choice, but blue-green chromis could work well for you - they only grow to around 3 inches, so that's a plus. Instead of having three separate schools, maybe consider getting a group ...

Re: new to the world of aquariums with my 75 gallon tank

Welcome to the salty side of life.

You've got a great start with that 75-gallon tank, and I'm excited to see it come together. I do have a few questions to help you along the way, though. Is your tank drilled, or will you be using an overflow? It's essential to consider this for proper water ...

Cherry sour chalice coral growth patterns

Here's my Cherry Sour Chalice's progress.

Got the frag from slojmn and snapped a pic on 3/19/14.

Took another photo on 4/3/14.

Then on 6/5/14.

And the latest one's from 12/9/14.

What's the size of the tang you're picking up? If it's really small, a 13 gallon might work out. Two weeks quarantine should be the bare minimum, though.

Re: Adding live rock to an aquarium with established fish

I'm not so sure that's the case. If you've got a well-established tank with a solid filter system, you might be able to get away with adding some uncured rock. But if that's the case, I'd still recommend adding it in small increments, one piece at a time, just to be on the safe side. That being ...

Re: Is my aquarium tank healthy?

This has happened multiple times over the last few months -

My 30 gallon tank is pretty bare bones - just LR, LS, a small slippery dick wrasse, and some hermit crabs. I test the tank daily for a week and the readings are always the same:
0 mg/L of ammonia,
0 mg/L of nitrite,
pH is 8.4,
and ...

Re: keeping clown fish and foxface together

They're compatible, but I'd be cautious with coflakes, they can be iffy on being reef safe, in my experience.

Re: Cardinal down, one gilling heavily

Came home to more bad news - the other two cardinals are gone. Still don't get why only they died, all the coflakes are thriving and the clowns and diamond goby look fine.

Ran some tests, and here are the results:
Amm: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
pH: 8.3
SG: 1.026
Temp: 79F

I'm starting to think ...

Re: Cardinal down, one gilling heavily

Thanks Scott, I figured as much without the test results. I appreciate your honesty.

We don't really use plug-in air fresheners, but we do burn candles in a different room. I'm not sure if that could have caused any issues, but I'll definitely look into it.

If it was a drastic pH change or a ...

Cardinal down, one gilling heavily

I woke up to a pretty rough scene - one of my bengai cardinals was already gone, and another was struggling, gilling heavily in the corner. Everything seemed normal last night, all three were eating and swimming fine.

The rest of the tank's inhabitants - 2 clowns, diamond goby, and a bunch of ...
