Re: can discus live with shrimp?
Shrimp with Discus? Risky biz. My tank's 55 gallons, temp at 81°F, and the shrimp didn't last a week. Maybe if you've got a bigger tank and more plants, but otherwise, it's a no from me.

Re: discus breeding water softener
Told ya peat works! I use the stuff from the garden center, way cheaper than aquarium brands. Just boil it first. My 55's got a powerhead for flow, temp at 83°F. They're spawning again this week. Good luck, man.

Re: discus breeding water softener
Ain't got time for RO, man. I chuck peat pellets in a mesh bag in my HOB filter. Water's tea-colored but my Discus don't care, they're too busy making babies. 55 gallon, sponge filter, temp at 84°F. GH dropped from 12 to 5 in two weeks. Just sayin'.

Harlequin Rasboras are underrated. That orange triangle on their sides? Chef's kiss. I've got 15 in my 60-gallon, temp at 85°F, and they school like they're in a music video.

Re: When is the best time to frag Goniopora?
Mine's tiny too, but I wanna frag it so bad. Gonna try feeding it more reef roids, see if that speeds things up. Heard they like dirty water, is that true?

My tap's clean but nitrates still high. Gonna try them floaters like Dkade said. Heard water lettuce works good.

Re: best filter for a discus aquarium
I'm new to Discus but my LFS recommended the Oase Biomaster Thermo 600. It's got a built-in heater, which saves space, and the pre-filter is super easy to clean. My 60 gallon's got sand, some anubias, and 5 young Discus. Water changes twice a week, 25%. So far, so good.

Yep, canisters can be brutal. I switched to a sponge and never looked back. Also, try feeding 'em near the front for a few days. Might help teh fish associate you with food instead of hiding. Works like a charm for shy fish.

Re: Why is my discus hiding in corners?
Hey, my discus did the same thing when I first got them. Turns out they just needed time to chill. How long you had yours? If it's recent, they might still be adjusting. Also, check if the filter flow's too strong. Mine hated the current at first.
