Re: Discus fry tank heater choice
I've had good luck with Eheim Jager for fry tanks. They're solid, hold temp steady, and won't break the bank. My 20-gallon fry tank runs at 85°F with zero swings. Just make sure you get the right wattage, 100W should cut it for your setup.

Re: discus fin damage recovery time
If you're gonna crank the heat, keep an eye on oxygen levels. Higher temps mean less dissolved O2. Maybe add an airstone if you don't have one. What's your surface agitation like?

Yep, Dream's got it right. I've seen mine bounce back in 3 weeks tops with clean water. You might wanna bump the temp to 86F to speed up their metabolism. Also, check your filter flow, too much current can mess with healing. What kinda filter you running?

Re: best discus food for growth
I've heard beef heart is messy. Does it really not mess with water quality? My tank's only 55 gallons, and I'm scared of ammonia spikes.
It can be messy, but with a strong filter and daily water changes, it's manageable. I run a Fluval FX6 on my 75-gallon and do 30% changes every other day. No ...

Re: is my discus sick or just shy?
Agree with Duppy. New discus can take weeks to settle in. Mine were the same way. Key thing is consistency—keep the water changes steady, same time each week. Also, how's the flow from that Fluval? Too much current can stress them. Try baffling it if it's strong. And yeah, what're you feeding ...

Re: ammonia spikes in discus tank fix
What's your water change routine? If you're only doing 50% weekly, try splitting it into two 25% changes. More frequent smaller changes can stabilize things better.

Agree with mole and julian. Another thing: how often do you rearrange decor? Discus like stability. I only move stuff during deep cleans, maybe once a month. Also, try adding some dither fish like Cardinals—they help shy Discus feel safer. My group perked up after adding 10 of 'em.

If it's eggs, you might see her cleaning a flat surface soon. Mine always go for the driftwood or broad leaves. Good luck, hope it's nothing serious.

Re: my discus has a bloated belly
Yep, agree with Goldie. Also, what's the pH and hardness? Discus can be picky about water chemistry. If it's too hard, they might stress and bloat. My crew chills at 6.5 pH and super soft water, no issues.
