Re: is discus tank too warm?
My tank's at 84°F, and the discus are vibing. You got any tankmates? Some fish can't handle the heat, and that might be adding stress.

How often do you gravel vac? Detritus buildup can sneakily raise nitrates. I do a light vac every water change.

A good siphon is a game-changer. I use the Aqueon one, and it's been solid. Also, try adding some nerite snails. They're low-key algae-eating machines and won't bother your discus.

Yo, landfall, what's your substrate? Sand traps way more waste than bare bottom. I switched last year and nitrates dropped big time. Still got plants in pots though.

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
Mine are straight vibin' in hard water, but I got 'em from a breeder who uses tap. Tank's 40 gallons (yeah, small, but they're juvies), sponge filter, temp 85°F. Feed 'em six times a day, beef heart and flakes. Water changes every other day, 25%.

Re: discus aggression during feeding
My discus used to fight during feeding until I added more plants. Now they have places to hide, and the aggression is way down. Tank is 70 gallons, 6 discus, no other fish. I use a mix of sand and driftwood, with Java ferns and Anubias.

Also, make sure your plants aren't shaded by taller plants or decorations. Even if the light is strong enough, blocking it can cause the same issue.

Re: Why Do My Plants Look Stringy?
Sounds like your plants are reaching for light. The Fluval Aquasky might not be strong enough for Anubias and Java Fern to stay compact. Try bumping the light intensity or duration, but watch for algae. Also, check if your root tabs are still active, they might need replacing.

Re: discus bullying in small groups
Yep, seen this before. It's usually a dominance thing. Try adding more hiding spots with driftwood or plants. I used Java fern and it helped chill the vibe. Also, maybe bump up feeding to 3 times a day so they're less hangry.

Re: discus tank ph crash recovery
Yo, same thing happened to my crew. Crushed coral fixed it in like two days. Also, check your filter media—sometimes it goes acidic if you don't rinse it enough.
