Re: A serious ammonia problem

if you're needing to add extra stuff, there's a good chance your tank's got an underlying issue, not saying it's the case every time, but it's possible something's causing your water to go haywire, that's why you're having to use additives and all that.

Re: A serious ammonia problem

For me, I don't add much to my tank - just food and sea salt during water changes. I also give my corals a calcium boost every other day. If my water gets out of whack, a water change usually sorts it out.

Re: A serious ammonia problem

my buddy had a nasty ammonia spike, got to .3 ppm and it was game over for all 14 fish in his 125 us gal tank. 13 fish died in 3 days, just one survivor, a yellow tang that's still kicking 2 years on, so yeah, luck of the draw, i guess.

Re: about pop eye

is there any device like a fish trap to catch the sick fish or do you have to take apart the rock work and coral to get him out?

Local reefers, forsale threads here, and meets in your area are all good options. Check them out, do your due diligence.

Re: care for blue spotted tang

I understand where you're coming from, but I think you're being a bit harsh. I'm just trying to learn and get the best for my fish. I didn't mean to mislead anyone, I'm just not that great with numbers.

To be honest, the nitrite level of 0.3mg/L does seem like a problem, I can see that now. It's ...

Re: care for blue spotted tang

If your nitrites and ammonia levels are zero, then your water parameters are fine. However, I'd advise you to double-check for any fluctuations in these levels before adding more fish. Rushing into things can be disastrous, and I'd hate to see you end up with a tank full of dead fish. The thing with ...

Re: care for blue spotted tang

Before adding more livestock, I'd get the nitrites and nitrates sorted out, aim for as low as possible, ideally zero nitrites, any reading is bad.

Re: stocking a 205-liter tank

Most marine fish are indeed vibrant and colourful. I've always been a fan of clownfish, but I think they're more suited to smaller tanks. Fluxx, don't you recommend growing a reef in the tank and gradually introducing fish? To be honest, I'm not well-versed in marine fish as I've mostly worked ...

Re: my holiday stocking list

I thought chromis were pretty chill, but then I brought home two bicolour chromis and the bigger one took out the smaller one in a week flat... ended up getting six so they'd calm down, but that just led to overstocking and a huge headache trying to catch them to rehome... took me nearly two months ...
