If the lid's not cutting it, try adding some floating plants. They kinda block the surface, making it harder for the fish to jump. Plus, it looks nice.

Yep, Anubias are tough but slow in high pH. Mine are glued to driftwood, and I barely mess with them. They'll grow eventually, just don't expect miracles. What's your substrate? Sand or gravel can make a diff.

I've attempted to grow short hair grass, but so far, nothing's worked out. I used mineflake rock wool as the substrate, which I previously used for a different plant in my aquarium. I'm looking for a material to put in the bottom of a one-gallon aquarium to create a grass-like blanket effect ...

Try an active substrate like floruite or ADA amazonia, should give you a better shot.

I think the blue one might be a Champsochromis caeruleus, but don't quote me on that - I'm not an expert on Malawi cichlids, I don't own any.

Building a tank from scratch

Saw all the awesome betta setups and I'm hooked, getting a tank now.
My dymax nano is ready, just need a few more plants to fill it out.

Still brainstorming a name for my future betta - any suggestions?
