Good choice! Just make sure the Hornwort gets enough light. It can get a bit wild if it's happy.

Java Fern and Anubias are great choices. They're tough and can handle the barbs' nipping. I've had them in my 55-gallon with tiger barbs for years, no issues. Just attach them to driftwood or rocks.

If you're not ready for CO2, you could try increasing your Excel dose slightly instead of cutting back. It's a balancing act, but some plants respond better to more carbon. Just keep an eye on them for signs of melting.

Yellowing leaves can be a sign of nutrient deficiency, especially if it's older leaves. Since you're using inert substrate, the plants might need more than just Flourish. Have you tried root tabs? Also, Excel can melt some plants if overdosed. Maybe cut back to every other day and see if that helps.
