Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try cutting back to once a week and see how it goes. My lighting is pretty basic, just a cheap LED, so maybe that's part of the issue.

Java Ferns are slow growers, so they don't need heavy dosing. What's your lighting like? Low tech setups usually do better with once a week dosing, maybe bump it to three times if you've got high light. Also, check your nitrates—they might be too low.

Sounds good to me too, I'm really excited about my tank. I've heard from a few people that heather branches work well in mbuna tanks, they help to lower the pH a bit and provide some nice hiding places for the fish. Thanks for the tips. Flow is low, just a sponge filter. Lighting is 6 hours a day. I'll try upping the ferts and see what happens.

is my tank too small for plants?
I've got a 10 gallon tank with a betta and some Java Fern, but the plants aren't thriving. The leaves are turning brown, and growth is super slow. Is the tank too small for plants, or am I missing something? Lighting is a basic LED, and I dose liquid ferts once a week.
