Re: Is my halfmoon betta male a good representation of the breed?

He looks great, fins and coloring are nice. No obvious signs of ich or columnaris that I can see. I've had experience with bettas in community tanks, and one thing I've found is that when the betta is the first fish in the tank, new additions can be seen as invaders. I've had more success when the ...

Re: Can i keep shrimp with my betta fish

I was mistaken about ghost shrimp being fragile. It's more about the conditions they're kept in at pet stores - overcrowded and poor. I've bought ghost shrimp multiple times and never had a 100% survival rate. I always buy extra, expecting some to not make it. In fact, I've had one die before I even ...

Re: Can i keep shrimp with my betta fish

I've had multiple people advise against keeping shrimp and betta fish together, but I've had a different experience. I've successfully kept betta fish with ghost shrimp in three tanks without any issues. I think it's possible that betta fish get a bad rap when it comes to shrimp, and people assume ...

Re: Is my betta rejecting bloodworms as a food source

Freeze dried blood worms just aren't the same as frozen ones, they lack the nutrients and flavor your betta craves. It's like you're offering a snack when it's really craving a feast. I mean, who wants dried out jerky when you could have a juicy burger, right?

Re: choosing a compatible top dweller for my shell dwellers

Thanks coltin, I just did some research on those species and I think I'd need a 20 gallon high to keep them with my shellies. Since I already have the 20 gallon long, I guess I'll just stick with a species-only tank. I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed - I was really looking forward to keeping ...

choosing a compatible top dweller for my shell dwellers

Upgrading my multifasciatus from their 10 gallon to a 20 gallon long soon - they've been breeding like crazy and I think the extra space will be a big help.

Considering adding a top dweller from Lake Tanganyika, maybe a single or a pair - any suggestions? Would a species like Cyprichromis or ...

Re: Choosing between 2 or 3 chambers in a divided tank

Historically, a 2.5-gallon tank was considered the minimum for a betta, leading many to believe that dividing a 10-gallon tank into four sections was acceptable. However, the consensus is shifting, with many now advocating for a 5-gallon minimum. Consequently, dividing a 10-gallon tank in half is ...

If all else fails, consider offering them to fellow fish enthusiasts on forums like this one. You might be surprised at the interest you get from people who'd love to give a home to your surplus bettas.
