Re: What causes coral color darkening?
Just a quick update - it's been 3 months since the last pic, and I'm blown away by how much color has returned. The brain coral's really starting to regain its vibrancy, and I couldn't be happier with the progress.

Re: What causes coral color darkening?
Just a quick update - switching from Marineland reef-capable LEDs to Aquaticlife T5HO with ATI bulbs has started to bring some color back to my brain coral. I also rearranged some rocks to give it more open space and light, no more branch hanging over it. The pics are from 12-31-14, 1-11-15, and 1 ...

Re: What causes coral color darkening?
Thanks for the input, guys. I really appreciate it. Both corals still have some color when the actinics are on, especially the echinata. I was under the impression that those types of corals preferred lower light conditions, but I guess I was wrong.

What causes coral color darkening?
I've got a bit of a coral conundrum on my hands. I had this gorgeous lobed brain coral, red and orange with a vibrant green center, and now it's turned a dark, foreboding red all over - just a few speckles of green left. My Acan Enchinata's also changed, its orange and green edges have given way to ...

Re: Small marine fish, such as jawfish, gobies, and blennies
I stopped by the lfs last night and found a gorgeous lawnmower blenny - he's got a nice round belly and looks super healthy, so I just had to bring him home. He's absolutely amazing, and I'm so glad I got him. I've been feeding him nori sheets, and he loves them, but only after they break apart and ...

Re: Small marine fish, such as jawfish, gobies, and blennies
Thanks for the advice. I'm really stoked because tonight I saw all these tiny white creatures crawling on the glass - I'm guessing they're from the jawfish stirring up the sand. There were itsy-bitsy starfish-looking things, and even some slightly bigger ones. I know I sound crazy, but I'm super ...

Re: Small marine fish, such as jawfish, gobies, and blennies
Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. The guy at the LFS said the lawnmower blennies he has will eat nori sheets too, which is great since I already have those on hand. I'm thinking of picking one up this weekend, we'll see.

Small marine fish, such as jawfish, gobies, and blennies
I've got a 30g tank with a clown, a watchman goby, and a pearly jawfish - which I thought was a pearly blenny when I bought it, until I got home and it started spitting sand everywhere. LFS is almost an hour away, so I don't really want to return it, plus it's kind of cute when I do see it. I'm ...

Re: Open brain coral problems
I've seen plenty of mixed reefs in aquariums, but in nature, it's not exactly common. You're focusing on the SPS, which is great, but maybe that's affecting your LPS - they need nutrient-rich water, which might be getting depleted.
