Re: finding suitable tankmates for betta

I added my betta to a tank with swordtails and mollies 3 weeks ago, expecting him to be the one dishing out the aggression. But the outcome was the exact opposite - he's now missing his tail and fins. It's a sobering reminder that even the toughest-looking fish can become victims.

Re: finding suitable tankmates for betta

To be honest, it's unkind to put a male Betta in with any other fish, regardless of who's there first. As you and others have noted, the Betta can be either the aggressor or the victim. essjay made a valid point, a Betta that may initially seem to tolerate other fish can turn overnight into a real ...

finding suitable tankmates for betta

I've been reading up on testing a Betta's temperament to see if they're community fish material, and I have to say, I was taken aback by the results. Had two low-ranking male neptunes in my tank, cleaning up the last of the detritus worms, and on a whim, I decided to introduce my new Betta to see if ...

Re: Top schooling fish options

Thanks for the suggestions. Leaning toward Rummies or Harlequins since they're supposed to be hardier. How many should I start with?

Top schooling fish options

Looking to add some schooling fish to my 55 gallon planted tank. What are the best options that won't mess with my Corydoras and Angelfish? Need something active but not too aggressive.

Re: Ideal flow for torch coral

Less flow is usually better for torches. Mine's in a low-flow area, and it's thriving. Just gotta find that sweet spot.

Re: Help a novice grow their plant: what am i doing wrong?

boomer, I apologize for the confusion - the algae is actually growing on the wood, not the Java fern leaves.

shakinStevens, I've managed to dig up some of my tank's water parameters for you. I use a mix of tap and rainwater, as our tap water is quite hard and high in pH. The current readings are ...

Help a novice grow their plant: what am i doing wrong?

I'm a total newbie when it comes to plants - my experience is with fish, having kept them for over a decade. I thought, why not try something simple to make my tanks look better and give the fish some extra hideaways? I'm not looking for anything complicated or expensive, so I picked up some Java ...

Re: Helping plants thrive in a new setup

I've come across this issue before - some plants can be quite sensitive to liquid carbon. Vallis, like the one in your third picture, often struggle with it and can die off, especially if you're dosing daily.
