Re: discus tank driftwood benefits
Driftwood's a game-changer for Discus. My fish are way more active since I added it. Just make sure you get the right type—some woods can be too soft and break down fast. I've had good luck with Mopani and Spider wood. Also, the tannins can help with stress, which is huge for Discus.

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
Yep, mine are chillin' in hard water too, around 280 ppm. They're not as flashy as soft water ones, but no health issues. I do 30% changes twice a week, feed beef heart mix daily, and keep 'em with cardinal tetras. Tank's got a sponge filter and LED lights, 12 hours a day.

Re: discus breeding water parameters
84°F is good, but try bumping it to 86°F. Discus often need warmer water to trigger spawning. Also, check your KH—soft water below 3 dKH helps. I've had success with daily 20% water changes using RO mixed with a bit of tap to stabilize minerals. What's your lighting schedule? Dim lighting for 6-8 ...

Re: cycling a new discus tank safely
Setting up a new 75-gallon tank for my Discus, gonna cycle it fishless. Got a Fluval FX6, sand substrate, and some driftwood. Water's at 84°F, pH 6.8. How long should I expect the cycle to take before adding them? Heard it's sketchy to rush this.
Yo, solid plan! The FX6 is a beast, but make ...

Re: Salt Question
Stu,
Honestly, I'm curious, what's the reasoning behind adding salt to your aquarium in the first place?
As for that Sifto pool salt, I'm not familiar with it, and I'm guessing it's probably not the same as food-grade salt. To be on the safe side, I'd stick with standard epsom ...
