One last thing—watch your temp swings. Nano tanks heat up and cool down fast. A decent heater with a controller's non-negotiable.

Gonna cut it straight—SPS in a nano's a pain. But if you're set on it, stick to hardier species like Montipora or Birdsnest. Acros? Maybe after you've dialed everything in for a few months.

I've read that it could be too much light, but I've had a colony of magicians do this on and off, even after being in the same spot for almost two years - they just kinda "reach" for light sometimes. Zoas are weird, I guess. Keep an eye on them and if this umbrella look doesn't change and the colony ...

It was probably the BGA that damaged your fern, as it would've blocked light to the covered areas, ultimately killing those cells. Now that the cyanobacteria is gone, it's likely the plant will recover.
