Re: discus tank water clarity hacks
Bacterial blooms are common with high bioload. What's your nitrate level? If it's above 20ppm, you're overfeeding or under-filtering. Test your tap water too, sometimes it's got silicates or phosphates fueling the cloudiness. A UV sterilizer can help if it's persistent.

Re: is discus tank too crowded?
Thanks for the input, everyone. I do 50% water changes twice a week, and they're eating like crazy. No aggression yet, but I'll monitor closely. Might rehome a couple if I see issues.

is discus tank too crowded?
I've got a 75-gallon tank with 8 adult Discus, a school of 12 Cardinal Tetras, and 6 Corydoras. The fish seem active, but I'm worried about space. Water params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate, pH 6.8. Temp's at 84°F with a Fluval FX6 running. Anyone think this is pushing it?

discus bullying in small groups
I've got a group of 5 Discus in a 75-gallon tank, and one of them is constantly chasing the others. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, pH 6.8. Temp is steady at 84°F with a Fluval heater. They're fed twice a day with a mix of frozen bloodworms and Hikari pellets. Anyone else ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
Yo, my Discus hated the FX4's flow too. I slapped a pre-filter on the intake and cranked the output down. Now they vibe near the driftwood. Also, try feeding near the calm spots—they'll learn where to chill.
Pre-filters are clutch. They also reduce intake suction, which can stress fish. What's ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish
Optimal flow is key. Aim for 3-5x tank volume turnover per hour. For a 75g, that's 225-375gph. The FX4 pushes 700gph, so throttle it back with the valve or add pre-filter sponges. Also, check your CO2 levels if planted—high CO2 plus high flow stresses them.

Discovering the unknown: lessons from unexpected experiences
I just spent a lovely time planting the plants in my aquarium. Initially, I was hesitant about having real plants - the thought of maintaining them didn't exactly thrill me. My experience with aquariums started when I was younger, and I had what I now know is Anacharis Elodia. I'd just toss it in ...

Re: Strange elegance coral behavior under different lighting
I'm curious, how long has the elegance been in your tank. The behavior you're describing seems like it could be a sign of stress, I've seen it before in a dying elegance, hopefully that's not the case here.
