Re: discus tank driftwood benefits

Another perk of driftwood—it's great for biofilm growth, which Discus love to graze on. My fish are always picking at the wood, and it's helped with their coloration too. Just make sure you've got a good cleanup crew like Corydoras to handle any extra debris.

Re: discus tank driftwood benefits

Driftwood's a solid choice for Discus. It mimics their natural habitat, releases tannins that soften water, and can lower pH slightly. I've got Malaysian driftwood in my 120-gallon, and my fish seem way more chill. Just boil it first to avoid any sketchy stuff leaching into the water.

Re: why is discus tank ph dropping?

KH of 2's way too low for Discus. Aim for 4-6 to keep pH stable. Also, cut back on the beef heart. It's high in protein and can spike organics, which bacteria break down into acids. Switch to more balanced foods like Hikari Bio-Gold or Discus pellets.

Good point on the light. I run mine for 8 hours max. Also, make sure you're not overfeeding. Leftover food can mess with the water quality big time.

Agree with zenox8. Also, what's the guppy's behavior like? If it's hiding a lot, it might still be stressed from the rescue. Could try some Indian almond leaves to calm it down.

Re: Duncan coral care and advice

Keep working on getting that calcium and salinity up, it's on the right track. If you're seeing some tentacles now, try feeding it a bit, might encourage it to open up more. I'm also wondering, are your lights always that dim or is it just the pic? Not that it should cause it to close up, but it ...
