Re: discus fry tank cleaning tips
How often do you siphon the bottom? I had the same issue till I started vacuuming twice a day. Also, maybe cut back on the flakes, they're messy.

Re: why discus nip at plants?
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try adding some greens and tweaking the flow. My GH is 5, KH 4, so maybe I'll adjust that too. Appreciate the help!

why discus nip at plants?
Noticed my discus keep nipping at the plants in my 75 gallon tank. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Temp's at 84°F, running a Fluval FX6. Anyone else deal with this? They're about 4 inches, fed twice daily with frozen bloodworms and flakes.

Forgot about tannins! Yeah, my driftwood's been leaching for months. Fish dig the vibe, and the light looks softer through it. No algae issues either, which is a bonus.

Yep, too much light freaks 'em out. I run mine at 50% max, 8 hours a day. Tank's got sand substrate, a few Java Ferns, and a sponge filter. They're way less skittish now.

I've been reflecting on this lately, and my goal is to keep things straightforward and appreciate these stunning creatures as much as I can. This means focusing on keeping discus, without breeding them, and continuing to learn more about them.
