discus tank water change tools

What's the best setup for water changes in a 75-gallon Discus tank? I've been using a Python no-spill system, but it's kinda slow. My fish get stressed when the temp fluctuates too much. Current setup: Eheim 2217 canister, sand substrate, driftwood, and a few Amazon swords. Water params are good, 0 ...

Re: best discus tank water test kit

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll grab the API kit and maybe try the Salifert later. My Discus are still young, about 3 inches, and I feed them beef heart mix twice a day. Gotta keep their water pristine.

Yep, beef heart's great for growth, but watch the waste. I do 50% water changes three ...

Re: best discus tank water test kit

Yeah, the API kit's decent, but if you wanna go fancy, the Salifert kits are top-notch. They're pricier, but the precision's worth it, especially for nitrates. My Discus are in a 90-gallon with driftwood and Java ferns, and I test weekly. Also, keep an eye on your KH and GH if your tap water's ...

That's a good point. I've noticed mine do better near the filter outflow. Maybe try repositioning yours?

Re: Discus color strains comparison

Thanks for the insights, everyone. I think I'll give the Red Turquoise a try and see how they do in my setup. I'll keep an eye on the water quality and adjust the lighting if needed.

Discus color strains comparison

I've been keeping Discus for about a year now, and I'm curious about the differences in color strains. My current tank has a mix of Blue Diamonds and Pigeon Bloods, but I'm thinking of adding some Red Turquoise. Anyone have experience with how these strains compare in terms of vibrancy and stability ...

No problem! Let us know how it works out. My pair's already gearing up for another spawn, so the terracotta must be doing something right.

Re: discus spawning cone diy ideas

I've had good luck with terracotta pots cut in half. They're cheap and easy to find. Just make sure to sand the edges smooth so your fish don't get hurt. My pair laid eggs on one last week, and the fry are doing great. Tank's at 82°F, with a canister filter and driftwood.
