Hard disagree. Discus need stability, and cheap heaters can cook your tank. Lost a whole group to a malfunction once. Worth investing in quality.

I swear by the Eheim Jager 150W for my 55-gallon. It keeps temps within 0.5F of 84F, which is perfect for Discus. Pair it with an Inkbird controller for extra safety. How often are you doing water changes? That can affect stability too.

I've had similar issues before. Check for any aggressive behavior from the Rams. They can get territorial, especially during breeding. My money's on nipping, not fin rot.
