Re: refugium benefits for corals
If you're switching to a sump, consider adding a protein skimmer too. Between that and the refugium, you'll have killer nutrient control. My SPS have never been happier since I made the switch.

Re: refugium benefits for corals
Refugiums can be a game-changer, especially if you're struggling with nitrates. I run one with Chaeto in my 120-gallon, and it keeps my levels at 5 ppm or lower. What's your lighting schedule like for the fuge?
Yep, Chaeto's a beast for nutrient export. I run mine on a reverse light cycle, 12 ...

Re: fixing discus hole in head issue
My Discus have developed holes in their heads, and I'm not sure what's causing it. The tank is 75 gallons, kept at 84°F, with a pH of 6.5. I do 30% water changes twice a week, use Seachem Prime, and feed them a mix of frozen bloodworms and pellets. The filter is a Fluval FX6, and the substrate ...

Re: Filter stops at 3 AM nightly
Also, check the O-rings. If they're worn out, the filter might lose prime and shut off. Had that happen with my old canister.

Re: Filter stops at 3 AM nightly
My canister filter keeps shutting off at 3 AM like clockwork. It's a Fluval 407, about 6 months old. Tank is a 75g with 12 discus, 6 corydoras, and a bunch of plants. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Anyone else dealt with this?
I'd suspect the impeller first. Gunk ...

Re: Discus fin rot or something else?
How's the lighting? Bright lights can stress Discus, make 'em skittish and prone to damage. I run mine on a dimmer schedule, mostly mid-day peaks.

Re: Discus fin rot or something else?
How's their appetite? Stressed or sick Discus often go off food. If they're eating well, that's a good sign it's not serious. Also, any redness or inflammation at the base of the fins?
