Re: discus hiding from tank light
Mine do that too! 60-gallon with sponge filter, temp at 86°F. They hide under the driftwood like it's a game. Maybe they're just drama queens?

Re: discus tank water clarity hacks
I had this same prob last month. Switched to feeding every other day and added a second sponge filter. Water's crystal now. Also, dunno if it matters, but I stopped using the cheap flake food.

Re: Best food for Betta fish
Mine's still a bit skittish around new food. I've been dropping a pellet in and leaving the room. He's more likely to eat it if he thinks I'm not watching. Weird, right?

Re: Best food for Betta fish
My betta's the same, super picky. I've had luck with Fluval Bug Bites, the tiny ones. He's in a 3.5 gallon with a preset heater, and I do 25% water changes twice a week. Maybe try those?

Re: can discus thrive in hard water?
Mine died in hard water, but my buddy's are fine. Dunno why. Maybe my tap had weird stuff in it. I use RO now, remineralized to 150 ppm. Tank's 55 gallons, bare bottom, with a canister filter and temp at 86°F.

Re: why discus swim at tank bottom?
My money's on water quality, even if tests look okay. Discus are drama queens about tiny changes. When's the last time you deep cleaned the substrate? Gunk builds up fast in sand.

Re: discus gill flukes treatment options
If you're using Prazipro, remember it's light-sensitive. Dose after lights out or cover the tank for a few hours. I've found that reduces stress. Also, avoid carbon in your filter during treatment, it'll remove the meds.
oh dang, didn't know about the light thing. good tip. i'll pull the carbon ...

Re: discus gill flukes treatment options
i tried salt once, but my discus freaked out. maybe i added too much? prazipro sounds safer. how often do you guys do water changes during treatment? i usually do 20% weekly but dunno if that's enough.
