Re: Fluval filter for tropical setups
Yep, the 307 is a beast. I've got one on my 40 gallon and it's been chugging along without a hitch. The flow's a bit much for my Betta, so I had to baffle it with a sponge. Works like a charm now.

combining a sump skimmer and refugium
I've got a refugium setup and I'm considering adding a skimmer, but I'm running into an issue. If I put the skimmer in the refugium, it's likely to suck in the chaeto. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? How did you manage to keep the chaeto out of the skimmer? I'm not keen on using a HOB ...

Re: do floating plants help with algae?
Yeah, I learned the hard way that Duckweed doesn't play nice. Now I stick to Frogbit and Salvinia. They're way less sketchy and still do the job.

Re: do floating plants help with algae?
Floating plants can definitely help by shading the water and soaking up excess nutrients. I've had good luck with Duckweed in my 10 gallon, but it can get out of hand if you don't thin it regularly. What's your nitrate level like?
Duckweed is a beast, man. It's like the herpes of the aquarium ...

Re: keeping coral beauty and flame angel fish
Thanks for the advice. I was drawn to their colors, that's why I wanted both coflake beauty and flame angel. But if they're likely to fight, I'll pass.

keeping coral beauty and flame angel fish
I'm planning a 55 gallon tank with a 30 gallon refugium and was wondering if I can keep a coflake beauty and a flame angel together. I've heard that you should only keep one dwarf angel per tank, so I just wanted to confirm if that's true or not.

Re: Large polyp stony colonies for sale online
Looking for LPS colonies online? I've had the chance to visit numerous LFS across California and I must say, Aqua San Diego truly stands out. Their LPS collection is exceptionally impressive.
Another great option I'd recommend is Unique Corals. Not only do they offer an impressive selection, but ...

Re: setting up a saltwater tank
Hi,
I'm making the switch from freshwater to saltwater and I have a ton of questions. I'll start with this one. I'm planning to buy Live Sand, LR, and fish all at once from an established tank. I currently have an empty tank. My question is, do I still need to cycle my tank before adding ...

Re: setting up a saltwater tank
Even with the addition of pre-cured live sand and live rock, there will still be some die-off of the creatures. I would still recommend cycling the tank for a few weeks, around three, and make sure to skim during this period. What type of fish are you looking to introduce, and what's the size of ...
