Exactly. It's not just about swings, but failures too. A backup heater's cheaper than replacing corals.

Temp swings are brutal on LPS too. My Duncanopsammia retracted for days after a spike. A controller saved my tank last summer when the AC died.

As a last resort, I've had to cut off the dead area of the skeleton on occasion. Then I dip it in Lugol's twice a day for a week or more, until I see results or it's gone.
