Re: Is my betta fish afraid of cory catfish?
I must advise against housing a male betta with other fish. It's not uncommon for bettas to take a dislike to tankmates, or for those tankmates to harass the betta, particularly if they're sedate and have long fins. Is my betta fish afraid of cory catfish?
I just set up a 10-gallon tank with my betta and some Emerald cory catfish, but now he's freaking out whenever the cories make sudden moves. I'm not sure what to do - should I just give him space and let him get accustomed to their behavior or is there something I can do to help him feel more at ease?

Can i propagate this plant successfully?
Just found this african water fern stem in one of my tanks, no idea how it got there. Can I get it to grow without a rhizome, or is that a lost cause?

Creative ideas for a 5-gallon space
I've got a convict in my 5 gallon temporarily, no need for alarm, but once it's out I'm considering my next move. I was thinking of going back to my original stocking - guppies. They were the first fish I had in this tank when I started out 2 years ago, but things have changed a lot since then.

Re: Determining the sex of my convict cichlid
Convict cichlids are pretty straightforward to identify. Females have a red patch in their anal fin area - not a lot, just a small spot, but males never have it. Typically, females are smaller than males, but don't let that fool you - they've got a feisty side, especially if the male's not pulling ...
