Honestly, it's a vibe thing too. Deeper beds look more natural, but yeah, they're sketchy if you're not on top of maintenance. My Zoas and Hammers dig my 2-inch bed, but I'm religious about vacuuming.

Your terracotta caves look amazing, I love the setup. Are the pots just balanced on top of each other, or did you find a way to secure them? By the way, I've got a similar cave thing in my Bearded Dragon's terrarium, it's a stair-type deal.

I'm going to chime in with the same suggestions as others, but I genuinely think they're worth mentioning - Anubias, Java Moss, and Java Fern are incredibly resilient. I've also had great success with Marimo Moss Balls; I have a few tiny ones and a couple of larger ones, and even the small ones made ...
