That's overkill for most plants. Just keep your tools clean and you'll be fine. I rinse mine with tank water before and after trimming.

For Anubias, I've found it's best to trim the older leaves at the base of the rhizome. Just make sure you're using sharp scissors to avoid crushing the tissue. Java Fern is a bit more forgiving, but you still wanna avoid cutting too many leaves at once.

Don't forget about water changes. I do 10% weekly, and my Mushrooms stay happy. Also, if you're using carbon, check that it's not too fresh. Fresh carbon can strip nutrients too fast.

dealing with frustration

I've got a few cichlids - 2 fire mouths, 2 pikes, 2 jewels, and 2 that I'm pretty sure are zebras. Watched some YouTube vids of people's cichlids going crazy for food, but mine just hide and barely touch theirs. Any ideas what's going on?
