Re: discus hiding from tank light
Mine used to bolt when lights hit. Switched to a Finnex planted+ 24/7 mode, which mimics natural light cycles. Now they're out all day in my 120-gallon, even with the rays shining. Maybe try gradual changes?

Re: discus tank water change volume
Appreciate the input, folks. Gonna stick with 50% and monitor growth. Forgot to mention I feed twice daily, mix of flakes and frozen brine. Maybe that's why my nitrates climb.

discus tank water change volume
How much water do y'all change weekly for adult Discus in a 75 gallon? I've been doing 50%, but my buddy says that's overkill. Tank's got sand substrate, driftwood, and a Fluval FX4. Params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

Yep, cloudy water's normal after a big move. Had the same thing happen when I upgraded to my 75 gallon. Snails are kinda whatever, but if they bug you, just drop in a piece of zucchini overnight and scoop 'em out in the morning.

Re: discus tank substrate pros cons
Sand's def the move, dude. My Discus are way more active since I swapped from gravel. Running a 125-gallon with a sump, temp at 83.5°F, and they're growing like weeds. Feed 'em a mix of pellets and frozen mysis, with the occasional cucumber slice for the plecos.

help with crowtail plaket's dorsal fin discoloration
Hey guys,
I know this might sound weird, but I keep my betta in a 5-liter round bottle - don't judge, lots of breeders do it. My little guy is 2 months old now. The tank's got plenty of plants - mostly frogbit and salvania - and I've also added some Indian almond leaves to the water. Everything was ...

Re: Should I get Discus?
I'm thinking 6 discus might be the way to go now. For maintenance, I was planning on doing 2 50-60% water changes a week, and just gravel vacuuming once a week on weekends. Depending on how busy I get, I might add another water change to the schedule. Usually, I just put ...

Re: Should I get Discus?
I'm thinking of skipping the background altogether. My walls are a very light blue, almost white, so I don't think it'll be an issue with the tank against the wall. Now, about stocking with discus - what's the real difference between having 4, 5, or 6 discus? I know 6 would ...

Re: Should I get Discus?
Thanks for the link to Forrest's discus. Their fish look great and are at a good size. I really like the ones at 3.5-4.5 inches, seems like the perfect size for my tank. As for the prices, they seem pretty reasonable considering the quality of the fish. I'm a bit concerned ...

Re: Should I get Discus?
Thanks for the insight on the background, I think I'll hold off on that for now. I plan to do as many water changes as possible, likely 2-3 times a week at 50%. I'm hoping the angelfish won't be too aggressive towards the discus, and I'll make sure to add some scaping to ...
